Advantage: Fashion!

Greetings vintage lovers!

The strawberries, champers and grunting that is Wimbledon came to an end last Sunday with our man Murray unable to clinch victory from the Swiss jaws of defeat. As Murray weeped all over his Tennis whites we at Judy HQ got to thinking – tennis has provided us with some curious fashion moments over the years. With Fred Perry remaining the last British man to win Wimbledon waaaay back in 1936, it only seemed appropriate to indulge in a healthy dose of fashion nostalgia.

From elegant long pleated skirts to some dubious short shorts, each decade saw its own unique style play out on court as it did on the catwalks- it’s almost enough to make me want to grab a racket! [Almost.] Trawling the internet for tennis stars past, here’s a selection of some of our DEUCE-iest [get it? get it??] picks…

Advantage? We say YES!

Be gone outfit drought…

As we veer ever nearer to the supposed ‘British summer’ [so far we’ve seen wet with a side of RAINY] we find ourselves in a drought of outfit inspiration.

That was, of course, until we went to York’s Affordable Vintage Fair last Sunday, where style was in no short supply. Vibrant hair, blazers and some sublime vintage tailoring – take it away York…

A corker of a Yorker!

Hello all!

Just a quickie to say thank you to all who came out to one of few fairs we’ve got going on this Summer – York! [cue fluoro-fifties flyer from another world – wooo!]

Alas, the weather may not have been as shiny as our hi-vis flyer, but we still had a corker of a day! Indulging in a little street style [we get about] this was one of our fave outfits of the day…

Vintage Nation Festival 2012

To recall our first ever solo vintage festival [which was nearly three weeks ago – BAD BLOGGER!] is something akin to trying to remember a bruise accumulated after falling of a park swing or tumbling from a seesaw in the follies of youth; you know you enjoyed it, wind in your hair, going higher and higher but at some point, you ate dirt, dusted yourself up, maybe cried for a bit [depending on your disposition] then threw yourself on the roundabout and got on with it.

Conceited and long-winded analogy? Yes! Irrelevant? NO! So what am i trying to say? That Vintage Nation was enjoyable, exhilarating, successful but BLOODY HARD WORK! Electrics failed, food vendors cancelled, gales were blown, tea was NOT SERVED CORRECTLY [hell hath no fury like a commercial caterer scorned – or should that be SCONE-d?] At the end of it, we were tired, delirious and probably, a little drunk [blast you Crabbie’s!]

Still, there was MUCH to be thankful for – the marketplace[which looked AWESOME and didn’t stop all day!] our sponsors, our live acts and performers, our photographers, our cars and of course, our customers. Without you, all of you, we couldn’t have made it through. And so, without further ado, here are a few snaps of a day that will, just like the King said, “be always on my mind..”

And there we have it – our first festival, done! Just the most massive, humongous, Godzilla-sized thanks to all of you who made it happen. To next year? To next year!
